bath

Take off your clothes.

A hot bath is being drawn for you. You comply with the note card. As you're slipping off your underpants, someone opens the bathroom door. You turn quickly, panicked. But there is no one there. It's only the sound of someone. A woman. The two of you slip into the bathtub together, you and the voice. She tells you a story about a memorable bath she had when she was young. She makes your bath memorable too. You leave reflecting about privacy, pleasure and shame.

THE POCONOS | 2012

The Penn Hills Hotel and Resort was abandoned by its owner in the late 2000s after failing to pay taxes. The expansive property resembles a time capsule: heart-shaped bathtubs, floor-to-ceiling shag carpeting and circle beds. Seven exclusive couples were invited on a late-night getaway to the resort in the Poconos. There were live music and drinks. They were then checked into their rooms and given time to get intimate in whatever way they liked. We created a site-specific track to be playing from the receiver of old phones that we found in the hotel.

STAYCATION

What romantic getaways have the walls of this fancy hotel room heard?

WYTHE HOTEL | 2023

As part of On Air Fest’s PODCAST EXPERIENCE, a brave couple came to Wythe Hotel for a staycation on the eve of Valentine’s Day 2023. One day later, the 10 microphones that recorded every minute of their time together was installed in 10 speakers using spatial audio techniques developed and implemented by artist Brendan Baker. In the midst of the busy podcast festival, participants could wander into the room and lay down as the walls whispered what they heard just one night before.
